What happens to the driver if the convertible flips over?

Accident and fatality statistics related to convertibles are not often studied, as they account for an extremely small portion of the total number of vehicles. And yet they do exist.

As it turns out, many convertibles actually used to be dangerous. About 10-15 years ago, they provided little protection for the heads of people in the cockpit. But since then, convertible manufacturers have beefed up the power frame of the windshield and the safety arcs behind the seats.

An analysis of statistics in 2020 showed that in a rollover, the driver of a convertible and a regular car have roughly equal chances of survival. But, according to the same analysis, people in a convertible are slightly more likely to be ejected from the car in a crash – 43 percent for a convertible versus 37 percent for a regular car.
